Necklaces:
Each bead is made out of recycled paper from magazines, brochures, or newspapers.  They are carefully rolled and then covered in varnish so they dry as hard as a rock!  Each of the colors are pictured below.   In Lugandan, "katago" means multi-colored.  If you choose the katago color, the necklace that you recieve will be similar but not exactly the same as the example in the photo.  Each necklace is about 60" long and can easily be doubled or knotted.

 Earrings:
The earrings are made of natural sisal.  The sisal is harvested, dried, and then dyed the desired color.  The widows then take the colored sisal and begin the long process of tightly and carefully weaving the sisal into the beautiful saucer shaped earrings.  It takes one woman about 2 days from start to finish to make a pair of earrings.  They are each about 2 inches in diameter.
